Despite a still-lagging U.S. economy and rising unemployment rate, House Democrats announced late yesterday that they will seek a massive increase in federal income taxes to help pay for the national health-care reform proposal that President Obama is urging Congress to enact this summer.

House Ways and Means Chairman Charles Rangel (D.-N.Y.)revealed late Friday afternoon that House Democrats will seek to increase income taxes by $540 billion.

Let 'em...I'm too poor to even realize we're in a recession as long as gas stays affordable. Lower taxes is the reason SSI is going broke, Medicare is lagging in funding, and our national debt is on the verge of being permanantly unpayable...When Regan was lowering taxes, and Bush I was lowering taxes, and Bush II was lowering taxes, all they did was line the pockets of the already wealthy. WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN PAYING OUR BILLS.

the FICA tax rate has been unchanged at 7.65% since 1990

and has been over 7% since 1985

so people are still beng taxed the same for FICA

the problem with SSI is that people who never pay a dime into get to collect

what you pay in is what you should be able to collect.......thats it

secondly all they did was lower the tax bracket for the top income earners in the country

want to make it fair.......tax everybody at the same rate regardless of income

then those who make less still pay the same percentage and then we dont have to hear people who arent affected by higher taxes cry about lowerng them

charge everybody 25 or 27.5% across the board instead of this 15-35% range we have now

would that be better for you?

I think the rate should increase according to earnings...never said it was fair...but all these big wigs wanna be patriotic, then there's how they can do it. Most have never served the country that made them rich, so that's how they can serve their country...

also if you are saying you are "too poor to realize we are in a recession now" then its you of all people who should be fighting to keep every dime you can in your pocket and not saying "let them" because if they do raise taxes for you.......its less money in your pocket and the way you nmake it sound........you can afford to have anymore money being taken from you and could probably benefit from getting to keep more of it

It may be less...but you can't get blood from a turnip, my friend. Higher taxes is the only solution to our nations financial woes. It's time it's not used as a political tool anymore, and instead is worked out and set in a bipartisan manner.

why should it increase by income?

why shouldnt it just be fair then and tax everybody at the same rate?

this way people like you cant bitch about them lowering taxes and how bad lowering taxes is

this way everybody pays the same thing.........even if it means you pay more in taxes

as americans we all have the same opportunities........just because some people take advantage of it and others dont means they should be penalized by paying more in taxes?

blanket tax rate across the board of 25% seems like the winner to me

Tax hike on the wealthy to pay for healthcare, this has been the plan since he started running...its no secret, he's said he would raise taxes on the wealthy for awhile.

i dont know where you work that they ask you to voluntarily hand over money to pay your taxes........in the real world they just take it from us and hand us whats left after its paid so it isnt getting blood from anything.......its about them giving you less

I guess the same reason that those who have never served think they deserve the same protections from this nation as those who have. I say F*CK THE RICH...let 'em start doin their part. The days of Bush waxing their trophies is over my friend.
